Selling Silver Plated Items
Aside from hauling it around, selling silver plated items in Sacramento is a relatively easy process. It’s really as easy as bringing it down to our shop, we then go through it with you to make sure that the items are indeed silver plated, and should we come across any sterling silver pieces, BONUS. We’ll gladly pay you a premium for those pieces. After the sorting, we weigh it up and pay you cash accordingly.
Step One – Sort & Organize
It makes it a much smoother process to have the large silver plated items separated from the smaller pieces. Example would be, flatware & utensils separated from platers, goblets & bowls.
Step Two – Making Sure It’s Plated
Silver plated items generally have markings on them and will say “Silver Plate”, “Silver-Plated”, “Electroplate” “Triple Plate” “EP”etc. You also see makers names and hallmarks such as: William Rogers, 1847 ROGERS BROS, International, Community etc. These are all indeed silver plated.
Step Three – What Is NOT Silver Plate
- If items have a sticker saying “Made In China” or “Taiwan” may or may not be
- If the item is magnetic, it is NOT silver plated (usually)
- If item is brassy looking or gold toned, it’s NOT silver plated
- Items that are “pewter” is NOT (nor do we buy it)
- Chrome plating is NOT silver plated
Step Four – Selling Silver Plated Things
Once you have it all sorted, you can either put it on a scale at home (to get an idea of how much weight you have) or bring it into our shop and we can weigh it up for you and get you paid. We’ll pay cash for all silver plated flatware, silverware, antique silver, old silver plated butter dishes, silver plated serving pieces and more.
